Introduction

Toropsis is the largest genus of Australian macropsines behind Macropsis Lewis. The genus is endemic with 11 species, most of which are restricted to the lower half of the continent and Tasmania, the most northerly records being T. gearyi (Evans) from Carnarvon in the south Brigalow belt of SE Queensland and T. minuspina Yang, Dietrich & Zhang from SW of Longreach in the Mitchell Grass Downs bioregion in Central Queensland. The body form is typical for Macropsinae but the pronotum is distinctly inflated (Hamilton 1980).
