Taxonomic Decision for Synonymy
- Rowe, F.W.E. in Rowe, F.W.E. & Gates, J. 1995. Echinodermata. In, Wells, A. (ed.). Zoological Catalogue of Australia. Vol. 33. Melbourne : CSIRO Australia xiii 510 pp. [Date published 30 May 1995] (adopting synonymy inferred by Clark, H.L. 1938. Echinoderms from Australia. An account of collections made in 1929 and 1932. Memoirs of the Museum of Comparative Zoology, Harvard University 55: 1–596 figs 1–64 pls 1–28 [463]; Holothuria dietrichii is added to the synonymy of this species herein following examination of Ludwig's (1875) type specimens. There is no doubt that they represent a dendrochirote and not an aspidochirote holothurian and that despite the absence of tentacles and calcareous rings, at least the holotype from Bowen appears to be conspecific with Thyone fusus papuensis Théel, 1886. To avoid the resurrection of an unused name due to the inclusion of this species as a senior synonym of Thyone papuensis, a case should be made to the ICZN for the suppression of the name deitrichii. Until this is achieved, the use of the name papuensis is preferred and maintained here to avoid confusion]])
