Species Euryphantia tristis (Kirkaldy, 1907)

Compiler and date details

23 March 2011 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

Fletcher (1980) differentiated this species from the only other described species of Euryphantia using features of the male genitaila as well as distribution. E. cinerascens has been recorded as far north as Palm Island, which is slightly south of 18ºS latitude, while E. tristis has only been recorded in far North Queensland from the wet tropics northwards, including Torres Strait islands, as well as from Papua New Guinea. Medler (1986) synonymised Euphanta obscura Jacobi, which is based on a holotype male lacking its abdomen, with E. tristis rather than E. cinerascens on the basis of this distributional difference.
