Diagnosis

Carapace subhexagonal or subtrapezoidal, usually markedly broader than long; anterolateral border divided into 4–7 teeth. Basal antennal segment transversely broadened, usually filling orbital hiatus, with ridges, granules or spines; antennal peduncle and flagellum usually excluded from orbit. Chelipeds longer than ambulatory legs, bearing a set of spines on merus, carpus and palm. Last pair of legs with paddle-shaped propodi and dactyli. Male first gonopod with subterminal spines.
