Introduction

Terrycarlessia turbinata can be distinguished from Protorugosa alpica by the combination of more turbinate shape, teleoconch sculpture of simple radial ribs and numerous discontinuous spiral striae and lack of a basal yellow band surrounding the umbilicus. Animal orange-brown with cream dorsal stripe.

Diagnosis

Shell large to very large, very glossy deep red-brown to yellow, subglobose to turbinate; protoconch with low curved radial ridges and fine spiral striae, teleoconch sculpture of crowded radial ribs (becoming obsolete on last whorl) and spiral striae (sometimes wrinkles) of varying intensity both above and below the whorl edge; umbilicus narrow, V-shaped; diameter 36mm.
