Introduction

Terrycarlessia is readily distinguished from both Strangesta and Protorugosa by the combination of globose shape, protoconch sculpture of regular radial ribs and very fine spiral striae, and having more numerous spiral striae on the teleoconch.

Diagnosis

Shell medium-sized to very large, subglobose with a domed spire, last whorl very large and flared; protoconch sculptured with low, curved radial ribs and very fine spiral striae; upper adult whorl surface usually with prominent radial ribs and numerous discontinuous spiral striae, underside of whorls smooth or with weak spirals; lip simple; umbilicus narrow, V-shaped. Shell colour yellow to deep reddish-brown.
