Genus Taphiassa Simon, 1880

Introduction

The New Caledonian genus Taphiassa, listed under several different families since its description (Theridiidae, Symphytognathidae, Mysmenidae), was transferred to Micropholcommatidae by Rix & Harvey (2010). These authors described the first Australian species for the genus and synonymised Parapua Forster from New Zealand. Specimens had been labelled as "Parapua" in some Australian collections for many years, although no Australian species had been described.

Several species of Taphiassa (as either that name, or as Parapua) were included in the molecular phylogeny of Rix et al. (2008).
