Tribe Tambiniini Melichar, 1914

Compiler and date details

11 May 2011 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

This tribe was first introduced by Kirkaldy (1907) but, in that work, the concept was what is currently the subfamily Tambiniinae. Melichar (1914) introduced the tribe in the sense it is accepted today and the concept was refined by Muir (1923). The Australian representatives of the subfamily Tambiniinae are all in this tribe and comprise three species in three genera, one species being restricted to Christmas Island. The tribe is mainly Oriental in its distribution.

Diagnosis

Subcosta without furcate branches reaching to costal margin; tegmina not leathery (occasionally granulated in the cells); crossveins present but restricted to the distal half of the tegmen (Muir 1923).
