Family TENERIFFIIDAE Thor, 1911

Introduction

Teneriffiids are predators, which have been collected on coastal sand, in arid and semi-arid deserts, and in high-altitude habitats. Most species have been found on the soil surface or under rocks, but some appear to be arboreal (Walter et al. 2009). Judson (1994, 1995) reviewed the limited available information on the family. Schmölzer (2002) reviewed the systematics and biogeography of the family, and described a new genus from the Himalayas. The Australian Teneriffiidae are poorly known, with only two named species in one genus and an unidentified species in a second genus. Unidentified species were also reported by Wood (1971), Heatwole et al. (1981) and Callan et al. (2011).
