Species Sphecodoptera cupreifascia (Miskin, 1892)

Introduction

Sphecodoptera cupreifascia (Miskin, 1892) comb. nov. by Kallies (2020).

From Kallies (2020, p. 25): "There are only two specimens [of S. cupreifascia] known in collections, the holotype in SAMA, which lacks the abdomen and the left fore and hindwings, and a female specimen in the NHMUK, both from Mackay [Qld, Australia]. The specimen from the NHMUK was figured and its genitalia examined and figured by Duckworth & Eichlin (1974). These authors as well as Hampson (1919) considered the species a member of the genus Synanthedon. However, based on the venation, general appearance and its genitalia, this species is quite clearly a representative of Sesiini, and it may belong to Sphecodoptera. However, more material is needed to test this association."
