Introduction

Strangesta ramsayi is distinguished from the sympatric Terrycarlessia turbinata and partly sympatric S. maxima by the olive-yellow colour, bolder radial ribbing and almost total lack of spiral striae. Uncommon. Animals are orange-brown in colour with a pale dorsal stripe.

Diagnosis

Shell very large, olive-yellow to yellow, subdiscoidal with a slightly elevated spire, last whorl very large and flared; protoconch with bold curved radial ridges, teleoconch sculpture of very prominent regular crowded radial ribs with little trace of spiral striae until the body whorl; umbilicus broad, V-shaped; diameter 39mm.
