Introduction

Strangesta is readily distinguished from Protorugosa and Terrycarlessia by the combination of simple radially ribbed protoconch (rugose in the former, finely striated in the latter) and more regular radial ribs on the teleoconch.

Distribution References

Diagnosis

Shell large to very large, subglobose to subdiscoidal with a low-domed spire, last whorl very large and flared; upper whorl surface usually with prominent radial ribs and scattered discontinuous spiral striae, underside of whorls smooth or with weak spirals and radial ribs in umbilical cavity; protoconch sculptured with low, curved radial ribs; lip simple; umbilicus wide to very wide V-shaped. Shell colour yellow to deep reddish-brown.
