Type species:
Stenopsoides turneri Evans, 1942 by original designation.
Introduction
This endemic genus is found in inland parts of Western Australia with one species extending into the Northern Territory. All species bear a bizarre anterior prolongation of the pronotum which makes them immediately recognisable. No males have yet been attributed to any of the four recognised species which may mean the species are parthenogenic. Alternatively, it is possible that the males are rare or lack the distinctive pronotum of the females and have erroneously been placed elsewhere.

Diagnosis
The head is slightly longer than wide and transversely convex, a crown is not developed. The pronotum, which is enormously anteriorly produced and which from below appears to be directly continuous with the face, has a median ventral carina. The hind margin of the pronotum is emarginate and the scutellum is large. The tegmina are apically acute and have appendices that continue around their apices as far as the costal borders. The hind wings are fully developed (Evans 1942).
Stenopsoides is immediately recognisable because of the elongated pronotum which can be almost half the total length of the insect (measured from apex of pronotal tube to apex of tegmen); measured from ventral aspect, the pronotum is at least 1.5 to > 2 times the length of the face. Other distinguishing features include, the tegmen length being greater than three times its width and shape of the anteclypeus being slightly constricted preapically and then expanded, truncate apically (Semeraro et al. 2021)
