- Stenometopiini Baker, C.F. 1923. The Jassoidea related to the Stenocotidae with special reference to Malayan species. Philippine Journal of Science 23: 345-405 [375].
Type genus:
Stenometopius Matsumura, 1914.
Introduction
The group of leafhoppers that are assigned to the Stenometopiini are linked together on the basis of a strong similarity in the structures of the male genitalia. The pygofer is triangularly produced and the aedeagus is strongly recurved and attenuated to form a long undulating filamentous structure reaching back beyond the basal attachment of the aedeagus. Five species in four genera are present in Australia.
Diagnosis
Stenometopiini are small to medium sized, often brightly coloured or iridescent leafhoppers. They can be identified by the narrow crown, shagreen texture of the crown, clypellus parallel-sided or tapering apically, forewings often submacropterous to brachypterous, male pygofer sloping caudoventrally and with few macrosetae and often with a distinct lateral tooth, female ovipositor protruding far beyond the pygofer apex, first valvula dorsal sculpturing granulose to maculose and submarginal, first valvula with distinctly delimited ventroapical sculpturing, and second valvula without dorsal teeth (Zahniser and Dietrich 2013).
