Introduction

Tribal placement of this genus is uncertain. Placed in Acanthocinini following Ślipiński & Escalona (2013), subsequently moved to Enicodini by Souza et al. (2020) however that study only used material from New Caledonia, and no Australian species. Ashman et al. (2022) found Australian specimens of Stenellipsis to group with New Zealand taxa from Acanthocinini and Parmenini, however their study did not include material from New Caledonia and they stated that further work with broader sampling is required to establish taxonomic boundaries. We retain the genus in Acanthocinini based on Ślipiński & Escalona (2013) and Ashman et al. (2022).
