Species Staurostichus chiastoneura Hull, 1973
- Staurostichus chiastoneura Hull, F.M. 1973. Bee Flies of the World. The genera of the family Bombyliidae. Bulletin of the United States National Museum 286: 1-687 [104].
Type data:
Neotype BPBM 12,933 ♀ (Coll. F. Muir,1-1920), NSW: Mt Victoria
Comment: Staurostichus was described by Hull (1973) based on 2 syntypes of the type-species of the genus, S. chiastoneura Hull, collected by him at Acacia Ridge, Qld, Sep-Oct 1953. The F.M. Hull Collection was sold to the Canadian National Collection (CNC) where a number of searches for the types of S. chiastoneura have since failed to uncover them. F.M. Hull's son revealed that some boxes of specimens had been destroyed by dermestids. It is most probable that the type specimens of S. chiastoneura were among those destroyed. A female specimen in the Bishop Museum that fitted the description of S. chiastoneura was therefore designated as neotype (Evenhuis, 1983:213).Type locality references:
