Malay Peninsula, Indochina, Palawan, Borneo and Sundas; introduced; in major cities and adjacent rural areas of east, south and south-west coasts between Cairns region, QLD, and Perth, WA, also E TAS, Kalgoorlie, WA, and many country towns and surrounding farmland between Cairns, QLD, and Geelong-Warrnambool, VIC, and along Murray River valley to the South-East and gulfs of SA—also erratically Lord Howe Is. (subsp.?). Intergrades with S. c. chinensis (Scopoli, 1786) throughout Australian range, least in NE QLD north of Innisfail (89% or more phenotypically pure) and most along central east coast and in Perth.
