E China; introduced; in major cities and adjacent rural areas of south-west, south and east coasts between Perth, WA and about Townsville-Innisfail, QLD, also E TAS, Kalgoorlie, WA, and many country towns and surrounding farmland between Warrnambool-Geelong, VIC, and Townsville-Cairns, QLD, and along Murray River valley to the South-East and gulfs of SA—also erratically Lord Howe Is. (subsp.?). Intergrades with S. c. tigrina (Temminck, 1809) throughout Australian range, least in Melbourne (27% phenotypically pure) and most in Perth and along central east coast.
