Introduction

By far the dominant group of Flatidae in Australia in terms of species. The genus Siphanta contains 41 described species some of which are also some of the most familiar planthoppers in Australian gardens. The tribe is primarily Australian with a few species of Siphanta extending to New Guinea and through Indonesia to the Philippines. Siphanta acuta (Walker), the green planthopper, has been introduced to New Zealand, Hawaii, California and South Africa.

 

Diagnosis

Tête prolongée en cône large, plus ou moins long, aplati à sa partie antérieure; celle-ci est en angle aigu en avant et se trouve sur le même plan que le pronotum et l'écusson (Melichar 1923).
