Type data:
Holotype QM ♂ (coll.: 15.i.-4.ii.1982, pitfall trap, G. Monteith & D. Yeates), O'Reilly's Guesthouse (via Canungra), Lamington National Park, Queensland.
Introduction
This is the only named species in the genus, the other two known species being based solely on nymphs. The name reflects the spiny, ugly appearance.

All stages: litter, phloem feeder.
Diagnosis
Crown trilobate with three pustules per row on disc; head wider than pronotum; pronotal flanges strongly arched; abdomen with median rows of tubercles close-set but distinct. Length: ♂ 3.0–3.8 mm; ♀ 3.7–45.1 mm (Hamilton 1999).
