Genus Saccamoeba Frenzel, 1892

Introduction

Unidentified species recorded from Queensland.

 

Ecological Descriptors

Endosymbiotic (host(s): Rhinella marina Linnaeus, 1758 [BUFONIDAE] Cane Toad (from intestines)).

 

Diagnosis

Small to moderate-sized amoebae, monopodial with the form of a slightly flattened cylinder. Anterior lobopodium usually shallow compared to cell width, crescent-shaped in cross-section. Uriod process in the form of a prominent posterior villous or knobbed bulb. Cysts lacking or unknown in most species; in those spp that produce them, they are approximately spherical and lack excystment pores.
