Compiler and date details
16 August 2010 - Murray J. Fletcher
- Rhigedanina Emeljanov, A.F. 2000. New genera of the family Cixiidae (Homoptera, Fulgoroidea) from Australia and neighbouring Territories. Entomologicheskoe Obozrenie (English translation as Entomological Reviews) 79(1): 12-34 [19].
Type genus:
Rhigedanus Emeljanov, 2000.
Introduction
The three genera included in this subtribe clearly belong together but defining the group as a subtribe without analysing the relationships between the remaining genera of Gelastocephalini leaves the subtribe Gelastocephalina as paraphyletic. All three genera have the head anteriorly produced in front of the eyes.
Diagnosis
The diagnostic features of the three genera included in this subtribe were defined by Löcker et al. (2006) as (1) presence of ear-shaped lobes on the pronotum and (2) presence of large lateral spines on the hind tibia.
