Genus Rhamphomyia Meigen, 1822
- Rhamphomyia Meigen, J.W. 1822. Systematische Beschreibung der bekannten europäischen zweiflügeligen Insekten. Hamm : Schulz-Wundermann Vol. 3 x + 416 pp. [42].
Type species:
Empis sulcata Meigen, 1804 (des. Curtis, 1834: pl. 517 [Type species conserved by I.C.Z.N., 2003: 203.]) by subsequent designation. - Dionaea Meigen, J.W. 1800. Nouvelle classification des mouches à deux ailes (Diptera L.) d'après un plan tout nouveau. Paris : Perronneau pp. 1-40. [This publication suppressed by the I.C.Z.N.] [24] [invalid name; Unavailable name; work suppressed for the purposes of zoological nomenclature by action of ICZN (1963)].
- Dionnaea Hendel, F. 1908. Nouvelle classification des mouches à deux ailes (Diptera L.). D'après un plan tout nouveau par J.G. Meigen, Paris, an VIII (1800 v.s.). Mit Kommentar herausgegeben von Friedrich Hendel. Verhandlungen der Zoologisch-Botanischen Gesellschaft in Wien 58: 43-69 [54] [Hendel (1908) was the first after Meigen (1800) to give characters to differentiate the taxon (reproducing Meigen’s characters) and to treat Dionaea as valid (spelling it as “Dionnaea”), which makes the name available from that work with Meigen as author. Hendel (1908) included two species: Empis borealis Linnaeus, 1758 and Empis platyptera Panzer, 1794. Coquillett (1910) designated Empis platyptera Panzer, 1794, which is the type species by subsequent designation. Empis platyptera Panzer, 1794 s currently treated in Rhamphomyia Meigen, 1822, which makes Dionnaea Meigen in Hendel, 1908 a junior synonym of Rhamphomyia Meigen, 1822. Hendel (1908) misspelled Meigen’s genus-group name but, as this is the first availability of the name, this is the spelling that must be used. Coquillett (1910) followed Hendel’s spelling of the genus-group name when designating a type species for it (Evenhuis & Pape 2017)].
Type species:
Empis platyptera Panzer, 1794 by subsequent designation, see Coquillett, D.W. 1910. The type-species of the North American genera of Diptera. Proceedings of the United States National Museum 37(=No. 1719): 499-647 [534]. - Dionaea Bezzi, M. 1907. Nomenklatorisches über Dipteren. Wiener Entomologische Zeitung 26: 51-56 [56] [invalid name; Unavailable name; criteria to make the name available not fulfilled in this work. Bezzi (1907) included this name only in a list of Meigen 1800 names without stating their availability (see Evenhuis & Pape 2017)].
