Species Rhabdocarpais cunicularis (Womersley, 1956)

Introduction

The taxonomy of this species is confused. Womersley (1956) described the new species Eugamasus cunicularis from a holotype female, paratype male, and six paratype deutonymphs. Nozza (1964) then created the new name Parasitus womersleyi as a replacement name for Eugamasus cunicularis and specified that this concept applied only to the female, but did not explain why this name change was necessary. Athias-Henriot (1981) placed cunicularis in her new genus Rhabdocarpais, but again specified that only the female was included in her concept of the species. This appears to suggest that Womersley's male and nymphs belong to a different species, but that species has not been identified.
