Diagnosis

Carapace with margins nearly parallel; frontal region wide; rostrum pointed or trifid (fossil forms); supra-orbital border developed, with teeth and notches. Antennae with very well-developed basal article, bearing prominent scale. Merus of third maxilliped markedly shorter than ischium. Thoracic sternum with sternites 1–6 in same plane; sternite 4 very large; sternite 6 separated from sternite 5 by transverse line, longitudinally grooved, anteriorly wide and posteriorly linear. Spermathecal apertures close together. (After Guinot 1993).
