Nielsen, E.S., Edwards, E.D. & Rangsi, T.V. (eds) 1996. Checklist of the Lepidoptera of Australia. Monographs on Australian Lepidoptera. Collingwood : CSIRO Publishing Vol. 4 xiv 529 pp. & CD-ROM. [260] (Note #476: Pterolocera similis Swinhoe, 1922. Walker (1855b) began his Latin description of Pterolocera amplicornis Walker variety [gamma] with the words "var. [beta]" P. similis; thorax ferrugineo-fuscus; i.e . similar to var. [beta]; thorax reddish dusky brown; …". Strand (1925, 1929) named this taxon P. ferrugineofusca Strand (see also note 474). Swinhoe (1922) misreading Walker's Latin used 'P. similis Walker' in the synonymy of P. amplicornis Walker, as a species group name and attributing the name to Walker. Hulstaert (1928) used 'P. similis Walker' as an aberration name. Bryk (1934) used 'P similis Walker' as a synonym of P. amplicornis Walker. Bryk (1934) listed P. ferrugineofusca as a form of P. similis Bryk although both names are based on the same two syntypes (see note 474). P similis Swinhoe was first published in synonymy and has never been validated)
