Type data:
Holotype QM G210599 (reef crest, 14.viii.1992, wholemount), Heron Island, Capricorn Bunker Group, southern Great Barrier Reef [23°27'S 151°55'E].
Paratype(s) QM G210602 (reef crest, night, 30.i.1993, longitudinal sections), Heron Island, Capricorn Bunker Group, southern Great Barrier Reef [23°27'S 151°55'E].
Introduction
One specimen of this species was found by Newman & Cannon (1994) with aberrant morphology; they reported that this specimen had two suckers. Newman & Cannon (1997) made further observations of the morphology of P. uniarborensis, stating that there is a range of colour patterns from opaque black on the southern Great Barrier Reef, through semi-transparent brown in Papua New Guinea, to light brown in specimens from the Philippines. In all these specimens, however, the marginal banding pattern is constant, leading Newman & Cannon (1997) to assign them all to the one species.
