Introduction

Protorugosa alpica is distinguished from P. burraga by the bolder, more rugose adult sculpture and larger size. Animal dark-grey in colour with orange foot border. Uncommon.

Diagnosis

Shell large, deep reddish-brown usually with a yellow spiral band surrounding the umbilicus, turbinate; protoconch with curved rugose radial ribs, teleoconch sculptured with coarse rugose radial ribs and incomplete irregular spiral striae; spire elevated; umbilicus wide, V-shaped; diameter 33mm.
