Introduction

This endemic genus contains seven species distributed primarily through the arid regions in the northern half of the continent. One species, P. occidentalis (Jacobi), may turn out to be a synonym of one of the other Western Australian species. The species are generally pale brown in colour.

Diagnosis

Pallid, sometimes mottled insects. Crown usually well defined and of even length. Pronotum and scutellum pale yellowish brown sometimes mottled with darker brown. Tegmen vitreous or pale hyaline brown; veins brown, sometimes with white bands and sometimes with small spines. Male genitalia: pygophore narrowing posteriorly, usually apically rounded; aedeagus bilobed, the distal lobe sometimes paired or W-shaped in profile. Xth segment unusually large, ventral margin broadly curved and with a pair of variously shaped processes arising from base. Female VIIth sternite truncate, sinuous posteriorly (Evans 1981).
