Introduction

This species is the only Australian ledrine with pronotal horns and hence is very easy to identify. It is found in eastern mainland Australia but is not common in collections. The species was named after George Masters, Curator of the Macleay Museum, Sydney, from 1874 to 1912 (Whitley 1974), who first brought the species to Goding's notice.

Ecological Descriptors

All stages: phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

♂. Head ferruginous, mottled with yellow. Prothorax ferruginous red, with a broad yellow band passing across the front. Scutellum sordid yellow. Tegmina with basal third yellow, punctured with ferruginous, the middle third ferruginous, the veins darker, the apical third clearer. Abdomen salmon colour, genital apparatus tawny. Femora tawny, apex black: tibiae and tarsi tawny. Long. ♂ 9; lat. 1½.; incl. lat. corn. 3½ mm. The female is sordid green, the tips of the lateral horns brown. (Goding 1903).
