Subfamily Pinnotherinae De Haan, 1833

Diagnosis

Carapace not appreciably broader than long, typically more or less circular and rounded. Antennules folding obliquely into small pits. Third maxilliped with ischium and merus fused into a single piece, usually folded almost transversely; palp smaller than ischium-merus; dactylus subterminal. Small symbiotic crabs, females usually living as commensals, males mostly free-living. (After Sakai 1976).
