Mainly in arid tropical inland; black-soil and gibber plains and dune systems of inland Australia, centred through mid north from SW Kimberley Division (Sturt Creek) to Barkly Tableland, around northern fringes of Tanami and Sandover Deserts, and through 'Channel Country', QLD to central Lake Eyre basin—irrupting erratically west to Pilbara and NW coast, north to all Kimberleys, central Arnhem Land and S Gulf of Carpentaria, east to westernmost outliers of Great Dividing Range between middle Mitchell River, QLD, and Namoi River, NSW, and south to middle Darling River plains, NSW, Lakes Frome and Torrens, SA, and Murchison River, WA, avoiding the central western plateau.
