Type data:
Holotype QM T5548 ♂ (coll.: 4.iii.1931, J.H. Smith, ex Paspalum), East Barron, Atherton Tableland, Queensland.
Introduction
This subspecies is from the Atherton Tableland in the wet tropics of North Queensland and is therefore well isolated from P/ smithi lamingtoni Woodward from the Lamington Plateau of SE Queensland. The two subspecies can be differentiated on the basis of features of the male genitalia.

All stages: phloem feeder.
Diagnosis
Periandrial lobes smaller and relatively narrow; apical part of harpagones more curved, subbasal lobe larger, more broadly rounded (Woodward 1957). These features are illustrated for both subspecies by Woodward (1957, figs 3–4).
