Introduction

Murphy et al. (2010) suggest separation of the Western Ground Parrot, stating that '[o]ur data support the need to reconsider the intraspecific taxonomy of ground parrots, and we suggest the recognition of the Western Ground Parrot as a species, P. flaviventris, for conservation prioritization, planning and management purposes'. The revised status as full species is accepted following advice from N.W. Longmore (pers. comm. 2011) but see also Joseph et al. (2011: 679).
