Type data:
Holotype NRS 100 (coral reef, coll. C. Aurivillus, 1891), Pulau Damar-besar (as Edam Island), Java Sea, Indonesia [05°57'S 106°50'E].
Introduction
Beveridge (2006) redescribed P. astis from the type material and new specimens from Western Australia and New Caledonia. He noted the presence of the ductus vaginalis, and transferred the genus Parastylochus Bock, 1913 to the Cryptophallinae Bresslau, 1933, removing it from its original classification within the Stylochinae Laidlaw, 1903.
