Extra Distribution Information

A.C.T to southern Victoria and Tasmania, where it is uncommon but widespread. In Tasmania it occurs in a variety of forest types, from open E. viminalis Labill. forest to tall wet forest dominated by E. regnans F. Muell., and from near sea level to 850m.

Australian Endemic.

Ecological Descriptors

Caterpillar: herbivore (associated flora: Eucalyptus l'Hérit. [MYRTACEAE] Gum trees).

 

Diagnosis

Although adults are superficially similar to P. porphyrinaria they are smaller and paler in colour; flies earlier in the autumn and usually does not overlap in flight period. The larvae closely resemble that of the montane P. chionopasta.
