Genus Palimmecomyia Taylor, 1917
- Palimmecomyia Taylor, F.H. 1917. Australian Tabanidae (Diptera). No. iii. Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales 42: 513-528 [518] [as genus].
Type species:
Palimmecomyia celaenospila Taylor, 1917 by original designation.
Introduction
A genus of wasp-mimicking horse flies endemic to Australia (Mackerras 1960). Previously considered to be a subgenus of Scaptia, Palimmecomyia was raised to genus level based on morphology (Lessard et al. 2013; Lessard 2014). A key to the two known species was provided by Mackerras (1960). Despite their striking appearance, little is known about the biology of this rarely collected genus.
