Family PSEUDOTYRANNOCHTHONIIDAE Beier, 1932
Compiler and date details
Mark S. Harvey, Western Australian Museum, Perth, Western Australia, Australia
Introduction
The Pseudotyrannochthoniinae are restricted to a few disparate regions of the world, including southern Australia, southern Africa, Sri Lanka, Japan, Korea, central Asia, Chile and western USA. The subfamily comprises five genera and 42 species (Harvey 1991; Harms 2013). Twenty-two species are currently placed in Pseudotyrannochthonius Beier, the most widespread of the genera. Pseudotyrannochthoniines mostly occur in leaf litter, but a few species are found in caves and show troglobitic features such as loss of eyes and pallid colouration.
Diagnosis
The Pseudotyrannochthoniinae differ from Chthoniinae by the position of trichobothria ib and isb which are situated distally on the chelal hand.
