Family PLATEREMAEIDAE Trägårdh, 1931

Introduction

The classification of the Superfamily Plateremaeoidea has not yet been satisfactorily resolved. Different authors have proposed different classifications, and the system used here for this and related families must be regarded as provisional. In the classification used by Schatz et al. (2011), the family Plateremaeidae includes nine genera and 28 species. Subias (2011) used a narrower concept of the family, with six genera and 18 species. The family is widespread in tropical and subtropical regions. The Australian Plateremaeidae are poorly known, with only a single identified species from rainforest litter in north Queensland. Unidentified species have been recorded from Australia a number of times as reported by Moulton (1982), Walter (1995), Adolphson & Kinnear (2008) and Callan et al. (2011).
