Family PARANTENNULIDAE Willmann, 1940
- Parantennulidae Willmann, C. 1940. Neue Milben aus Höhlen der Balkanhalbinsel, gesammelt von Prof. K. Absolon, Brünn. Zoologischer Anzeiger 130: 209-218.
Introduction
The family Parantennulidae is a group of large heavily sclerotised mites that are found phoretically attached to beetles and millipedes. Kim (2010) reviewed the very meagre information available for the family, and provided a key to the three genera and five species. Kim (2010) argued that the name Parantennulidae Willmann, 1940 is not available, on the grounds that Willmann did not designate a type genus. However, before 1999 it was not necessary to explicitly designate a type genus (International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, Article 16.2).The family is known from Australia on the basis of one unconfirmed record of Micromegistus gourlayi and records of two other unidentified species.
