Genus Ouwea Distant, 1907

Compiler and date details

30.7.2010 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

The type species, O. doddi, is one of the more common Achilini in Australian collections, although its distribution appears restricted to northern Queensland. Emeljanov (2005) resurrected the genus from Catonidia Uhler after Fennah (1950) synonymised the two names.

Diagnosis

The genus is recognised by its rectangular, slightly concave vertex which is 2-3 times as wide as long. The species also does not have the second segment of the antennae projecting past the eyes (in dorsal view). Fresh specimens of O. doddi are striking in their dark brown coloration with yellow venation and yellow patches.
