Subfamily Achilinae Stål, 1866

Compiler and date details

23.7.2010 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

The subfamily Achilinae was recognised by Metcalf (1938) who separated the two genera Apateson and Ateson into a new subfamily Apatesoninae on the basis of the tegmina being held vertically with the apices opposed in those two genera. Fennah (1950) did not recognise any subfamilies of Achilidae but treated all the groups, including Apatesonini, as tribes. Emeljanov (1991, 1992) reduced the family Achilidae (as recognised by Fennah (1950) with its included tribes) to the subfamily Achilinae (which he credited to Stål 1866) and added two other subfamilies, one of which had previously been the family Achilixiidae and the other being a new tribe the Bebaiotinae.

All the Australian Achilidae belong to the Achilinae.
