Species Ornithonyssus sylviarum (Canestrini & Fanzago, 1877)

Introduction

This species is the subject of a very extensive literature, because it is a significant pest of poultry, and sometimes bites humans and causes skin irritation. Only a few selected references are listed here. Its biology and medical importance were reviewed by Mullen & OConnor (2009), and the literature on this species was reviewed by Hogsette et al. (1991).
