Type data:
Status unknown, whereabouts unknown, Ryukyu Islands (as Loo-Choo). - Eleotris taeniura Macleay, W.J. 1881. Descriptive catalogue of the fishes of Australia. Part 2. Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales 1 5(4): 510-629 pls 13-14 [624] [the holotype has a damaged first dorsal fin, many spines having been broken, but with some having regenerated partially; synonymy is based on the high transverse scale count of the holotype, and on spots on the operculum and black spots on the side mentioned in the original description, but no longer visible on the holotype and the horse-shoe shaped marks on side, still visible; the apparent longer third dorsal spine formed the rationale for the incorrect suggestion that the species is synonymous with Valenciennea muralis by Hoese & Larson (2006)].
Type data:
Holotype AM I.16384–001, Low Island, QLD.
