Introduction

This unusual leafhopper with its broad head is only known from the original two specimens from Dedari, in the Coolgardie region of Western Australia. Day & Fletcher (1994) provide some notes on Dedari and on the collector, R.E. Turner, and his itinerary in Australia during 1935 and 1936.

Diagnosis

The head is considerably wider than long, ventrally it is almost flat, the antennal pits are shallow and the eyes large. The frontal sutures are almost parallel to each other and to the internal margins of the eyes. They appear to extend posteriorly beyond the ocelli and the apices are directed towards the eyes on each side. The crown is wide and consists almost entirely of the vertex, the coronal suture is short and the ocelli though marginal are visible from above. The pronotum narrows laterally. The tegmina are short and do not nearly reach to the apex of the abdomen; the appendix continues around the apex to the costal margin. The hind tibiae have a strong armature of spines. Each spine of the row of strongest spines is mounted on an enlarged base and separated from its neighbour by three or four minute spines. The male genitalia have wide flat subgenital plates that narrow apically and narrowly produced pygophores (Evans 1942).
