Tribe Occinirvanini Evans, 1966

Compiler and date details

22 July 2011 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

The only species of Occinirvanini is Occinirvana eborea (Evans) from Casuarinaceae in Perth, Western Australia. It can be distinguished from other Australian leafhoppers by the position of the ocelli and the antennal bases, both of which are closer to the apex of the head than they are to the eyes. Evans (1942) placed the genus in the Nirvaninae and Evans (1966) created the tribe Occinirvanini for it. The tribe was transferred to the Deltocephalinae by Dietrich (2004).

Diagnosis

The principal features distinguishing insects in this tribe are the position of the antennae, the antennal ledges and the ocelli, all of which are unusually situated, being nearer to the apex of the head than to the eyes (Evans 1966).
