Introduction

This genus contains almost 20 species distributed around the globe from Puerto Rico in Central America, across Africa and Asia to the Pacific. Four species have been recorded in Australia including the economically important brown planthopper, N. lugens (Stål) in Queensland.

Diagnosis

Distinguished from all other Australian delphacids by the presence of one or more lateral spines on the first hind tarsomere. The frons has two submedian carinae.
