Species Nassarius (Zeuxis) castus Gould, 1850

Generic Combinations

Introduction

Cernohorsky (1984, p. 130) lists Nassarius (Zeuxis) castus (Gould, 1850) with about 20 synonyms, as listed above. Subsequent work by Kool (2008) (See General References below) has shown some of these to be valid species with restricted ranges but others are unresolved. He showed that Nasarius castus (Gould, 1850) itself is restricted to Fiji, so that is not the name of the Australian species. The correct name and distribution for the species historically identified in Australia as N. castus remains to be determined.
