Superfamily BUCCINOIDEA
Introduction
The superfamily Buccinoidea is is distributed across all oceans and from Arctic to Antarctic waters. It is one of the largest groups of Neogastropoda, currently including around 3390 extant species in 337 genera, with 359 species in 86 genera recorded from Australia. The arrangement followed here is based on the revised classification of Kantor et al. (2022) who used molecular data, supplemented by anatomical and radula data, to substantially revise the relationships between the previously recognised families and subfamilies. They presented a new classification including 20 families and 23 subfamilies, and reclassified all but 40 genera.
