Diagnosis

Valves subquadrate in lateral view, anterior end broadly rounded, posterior end truncate with more or less well-developed posteroventral caudal prolongation. Dorsal and ventral outline slightly convex and subparallel. Carapace heavily reticulate. Inner lamella of medium width. Marginal pore canals numerous, straight, mostly simple. Hinge amphidont/heterodont.
